Comcast NBCUniversal Donates $25,000 to United Cajun Navy to Support Monroe Area Winter Storm Fern Relief Efforts
Comcast NBCUniversal today announced a $25,000 donation to the United Cajun Navy to assist the Monroe area — including the cities of Monroe and West Monroe — in its recovery from Winter Storm Fern. The contribution provided several pallets of coats and blankets for residents across Ouachita Parish as families continue recovering from the storm’s prolonged outages and dangerously low temperatures.
“This is what community looks like,” said Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis. “When help was needed, Comcast, the United Cajun Navy, and our local first responders answered the call and made sure area families had what they needed. Their generosity truly makes a difference in the lives of our families and gives us hope for brighter days ahead.”
Added West Monroe Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell, “West Monroe has weathered an incredibly difficult few weeks, and our community has shown remarkable resilience at every turn. As our neighbors continue to navigate power outages and storm damage, support from partners like Comcast helps lift some of that burden and strengthens the local organizations working directly with our residents. We’re grateful for their commitment to West Monroe and for helping our community move forward together.”
Comcast worked closely with local partners to ensure donated resources were quickly distributed at the Abe Pierce III Convention Center, where residents received coats, blankets, and other essential items.
“The United Cajun Navy is grateful to Comcast for providing much needed relief to the victims of severe weather in North Louisiana,” said Brian Trascher, VP, United Cajun Navy. “Thanks to their generous grant, we were able to deliver a packed 18-wheeler full of warm weather supplies, water and snacks to the Monroe Convention Center. We also appreciate the strong cooperation from Mayor Ellis’ staff and the City of Monroe.”
In addition to the donation, Comcast continues working with city officials and emergency responders throughout the recovery period.
“Supporting our communities, especially in moments of hardship, is core to who we are,” said Mike McArdle, Regional Senior Vice President at Comcast. “Winter Storm Fern brought historic damage and unprecedented challenges to the Monroe area, and we’re committed to standing with residents by supporting organizations like the United Cajun Navy that provide immediate, meaningful relief.”
Restoring Connectivity
As recovery efforts continue across the Monroe area, Comcast reminds customers that Xfinity and Comcast Business services can only be restored once local power returns.
Even if a home’s electricity has been restored, power may not yet be fully restored to the Comcast network equipment that serves the neighborhood. In those cases, service may return shortly after utility repairs are completed.
To help confirm service restoration, Comcast encourages customers to:
- Restart gateways, modems, routers, and TV boxes once power is restored.
- Check the Xfinity App or Xfinity.com/myaccount for outage updates.
- Register a mobile number to receive real‑time text alerts when service is restored.
- Contact Comcast via chat or phone at 1‑800‑XFINITY, or visit Xfinity.com/response for troubleshooting and updates.
These efforts are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing resources and support to communities during times of unexpected need.
